KARAM Safety lands $63M from Motilal Oswal Alternates for global push

The Indian occupational safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) maker will use the capital to fund acquisitions, manufacturing and global expansion.

Who's KARAM? Founded in 1998, KARAM is among India's largest companies in fall protection and PPE, with a portfolio of more than 3,800 products including harnesses, helmets, safety footwear, and respiratory and hand protection gear. It runs manufacturing facilities across India, South Africa, and Brazil, exports to more than 140 countries, and employs over 4,500 people.

What's the money for? KARAM plans to pursue strategic acquisitions across complementary product categories, technologies, and international markets. It also aims to strengthen manufacturing, product innovation, and its global distribution network.

Why now? The deal marks the fifth investment from IBEF V, which closed at ₹8,500 crore in February 2026. EY advised KARAM on the sell side.

What's the endgame? "This investment marks an important chapter in KARAM's journey," said co-founder Hemant Sapra. "It provides us with the strategic and financial flexibility to pursue meaningful acquisitions, enter new categories and markets, and accelerate our ambition of building KARAM into a global leader in the safety industry."

The signal: Motilal OswalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → is betting on India as a manufacturing base for high-quality safety products, a category with "strong structural tailwinds, driven by rising workplace safety standards, greater regulatory enforcement and sustained industrial capital expenditure," said managing director Prakash Bagla. The bet reflects growing investor interest in homegrown Indian brands with global distribution and R&D depth.
