Main Capital takes majority stake in Dutch auto-software firm VWE

Who is VWE? Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Heerhugowaard, VWE employs roughly 150 people and serves more than 10,000 customers, mostly in the Netherlands. Its clients include independent dealers, leasing companies, insurers, workshops, and fleet operators.

What does it sell? At the core is MijnVWE, a platform that automates processes across the vehicle lifecycle — purchasing, registration, administration, valuation, sales, and ownership transfer. Why Main? The private equity firm cites experience in scaling automotive software companies. "VWE has built a strong position in the Dutch automotive ecosystem, underpinned by mission-critical software, proprietary data assets and long-standing customer relationships," said Jeffrey Sanya, investment director at Main.

The signal: The deal reflects private equity's continued appetite for vertical software firms with regulated connectivity, entrenched customers, and hard-to-replicate data. For VWE, the challenge now is turning a strong domestic position into international scale.
