Hello Clever raises Series A led by Variant as it nears $100M ARR

What's the deal? Hello CleverDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a payments startup, has raised a Series A led by New York venture firm VariantDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, with participation from EasygoDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and a group of strategic operators. The round was announced in September 2026.

What's the endgame? Hello Clever wants to build what it calls the exchange for global money movement — an intelligence layer that decides how each transaction should move. Rather than owning a single rail, it aims to route payments across cards, real-time bank networks, wallets, local methods, and stablecoins.

Why now? The company says it is racing toward $100 million in annual recurring revenue while operating cashflow positive. It plans to scale globally, with a particular focus on expanding in the United States.

The problem it targets: A merchant's payment decision once meant simply accepting a card. Now the same transaction can travel through a card network, a bank rail, a wallet, a local method, or a stablecoin rail — each with different economics, settlement speeds, and geographic reach.

"The future of payments isn't going to be cards versus bank payments versus stablecoins. They're all going to exist," said co-founder and chief executive officer Caroline Tran. "The much bigger question is who decides which one should fulfil a transaction."

President Justin Grooms framed the shift away from the incumbent model. "The last generation of payments companies was built around owning a piece of the stack and charging a toll every time money passed through it," he said, adding that value now shifts "to the intelligence that can connect them and make the right decision in real time."

The investor view: Variant, a New York firm investing in markets, infrastructure, and applications, sees fragmentation as the opportunity. "The opportunity is shifting from simply building another rail to building the intelligence and infrastructure that connects them," said investment partner Daniel Barabander, who called Hello Clever a potential "important piece of global financial infrastructure."

The signal: Payments are fragmenting fast as real-time bank rails expand and stablecoins emerge as a settlement layer. Hello Clever is betting the money moves not to whoever builds the next rail, but to whoever can route across all of them.
