QPE-backed Initiate buys Sheffield analytics firm Dark Peak

Who are they? Sheffield-based Dark Peak was founded in 2020 to improve the usability, transparency, and reproducibility of healthcare decision models. Initiate operates from offices in Northampton, London, and Zug, Switzerland.

Why now? Initiate secured investment from QPE last year, giving it backing to expand its platform through acquisition.

What's the endgame? The combined business will offer an end-to-end service across market access, HEOR, health technology assessment (HTA), evidence generation, modelling, analytics, and technology-enabled services.

Andrew Mumford, chief executive at Initiate, said the goal is "not simply to add capabilities together, but to build a more connected, technology-enabled model that helps clients make better decisions and achieve faster, broader patient access."

Robert Smith, managing director of Dark Peak, said the deal creates "a unique opportunity to integrate advanced analytics, health economic modelling, HEOR and market access expertise within a single platform."

The signal: The acquisition reflects a push toward consolidated, technology-enabled healthcare consultancies. Mark Crowley of QPE said Dark Peak adds "exceptional scientific, analytical and technology capabilities to an already strong market access and HEOR platform," positioning the group for long-term growth.
