Why now? The bets land in a tough market. African startups raised just $9 million in early-stage funding in the first half of 2026, down from $25 million a year earlier. The facility's model is built to fill that gap.
What's the money for? Trade Lenda, which offers digital business loans, embedded finance and Sharia-compliant financing, has supported more than 260,000 SMEs and farmers across five of Nigeria's six geopolitical zones, with women making up 66% of customers. AirSmat is using its capital to commission a commercial factory for its fertiliser and expand production.
What they're saying: "The capital has enabled us to accelerate our growth, acquire a higher license, and attract more competitive funding," said Adeshina Adewumi, co-founder and chief executive officer of Trade Lenda. He said it helped the company secure an additional $2 million in local debt facilities at lower rates.
