What's the endgame? AI Score runs a real-time platform that tracks and controls the use of generative and agentic AI across a company. The pitch: help clients govern AI without constraining it.

Why now? The round follows a $1 million pre-seed in November and lands amid mounting evidence that AI agents can act autonomously, beyond their creators' intentions. AI Score said revenue rose sharply in the first half of the year, driven by clients in regulated, data-sensitive sectors, including a law firm and global consumer brands. It declined to name them.

Who's behind it? Chief executive Alex Harland was part of the founding team at the UK's National Cyber Security Centre; co-founder Benita Tibb is a former City lawyer. Advisers include Sir Jeremy Fleming, the former GCHQ director, Starling Bank chair Colin Bell, and Darktrace co-founder Nick Trim.

"AI operates at a scale and level of automation that traditional governance simply wasn't built for," Harland said. The funding will "accelerate our ambition to reinvent governance for the AI age," he added.

The signal: The round ranks around the 95th percentile by size among UK enterprise software seed deals on record — a sign investors are betting AI governance becomes a required layer, not an afterthought. As Bell framed it, the aim is turning governance "from a constraint into a driver of value."
