What's the endgame? Founded in London in 2023 by Hugo Lu and Will Davies, Orchestra combines data pipeline orchestration with managed AI agents in what it calls an Agentic Control Plane. The goal: one context-aware system where anyone can automate data and AI workflows while keeping oversight.

How it works: The platform runs tasks and agents concurrently on a serverless engine, so engineers avoid managing compute clusters. A Context Layer feeds agents the information they need without full access, and its newest product, Orchestra Runtime, isolates each agent to only the resources it requires.

Why now? Usage has grown more than tenfold since the round closed about a year ago, according to the company. Orchestra says it automates hundreds of failure investigations for customers each day — for example, checking failed pipelines overnight.

Why it matters: Lu and Davies built the company after hitting infrastructure bottlenecks firsthand. Lu previously led the data team at fintech Codat; Davies led product engineering at a video AI infrastructure startup. "We both experienced firsthand the problems data engineers have with complexity before we founded the company," says Lu, chief executive officer.

What could go wrong? The field is crowded. Orchestra competes with Apache AirflowDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, Prefect, and Dagster on orchestration, and with CursorDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, OpenAI's Codex, and Claude's scheduled tasks on agents. In July 2026, Prefect bought Dagster Labs, merging two leading Airflow successors into one stronger rival.

The signal: The data orchestration market was worth about $1.3 billion in 2024 and could reach $4.3 billion by 2034, growing 12.1% a year. As enterprises push AI into production, the pitch that pipelines and agents belong under one control plane places Orchestra at the center of that convergence.
