What's the deal? CumminsDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, the US industrial and power technology company known for diesel engines for trucks and heavy machinery, has joined Emerald Technology VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → as a limited partner. The move gives Cummins access to Emerald's startup network across electrification, alternative fuels, energy systems, mobility, and industrial decarbonisation.

Who's Emerald? Founded in 2000, the firm manages and advises over €1.3 billion in assets from offices in Zurich, Toronto, and Singapore. It backs startups tackling climate change and sustainability, running four current funds, hundreds of venture transactions, and six third-party mandates that include loan guarantees to more than 100 startups.

What's the endgame? Cummins wants to expand its innovation pipeline by engaging emerging companies in advanced mobility, electrification, alternative fuels, energy efficiency, and digital technologies. The aim is to find scalable technologies that strengthen its core businesses and support its energy-transition strategy.

What Cummins gets: targeted startup access, sector deep dives, priority access to Emerald's investment teams, and open innovation programs such as Emerald Sprints for rapid piloting. It also plugs into Emerald's global network of corporates, investors, and technology leaders.

"Innovation has always been central to Cummins' ability to help customers succeed through industry transitions," said Jeff Wiltrout, vice president of corporate strategy. "Our relationship with Emerald provides another channel to identify and evaluate technologies that could support our customers' evolving needs and furthers our growth strategy."

The partnership is built around collaboration and knowledge exchange rather than pure financial investment. "We are proud to welcome Cummins to the Emerald LP community," said Christoph Frei, partner and head of energy at Emerald. "Cummins brings a unique combination of industrial scale, technology leadership, engineering excellence, and long-term commitment to sustainability."

The signal: Industrial incumbents are increasingly using corporate LP stakes in specialist venture funds to buy into the energy transition. For Cummins, betting on external innovators is a hedge against the decline of its diesel legacy — and a bid to stay relevant as electrification and clean energy reshape heavy industry.
