NTT Docomo Ventures backs Japan's KG Motors and its one-person EV

What's the deal? NTT Docomo VenturesDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has invested in KG Motors, a Higashi-Hiroshima startup building a one-person electric vehicle called the mibot. The deal is a Series A round, announced in September 2026.

What does KG Motors do? Led by chief executive officer Kazunari Kusunoki, the company develops compact mobility robots aimed at safe, comfortable, and affordable short-distance travel. The mibot targets individual users in areas where conventional transport is limited.

Why now? Japan's declining population and aging society are making regional public transport harder to sustain. KG Motors is pitching its compact EV as a fix for communities that struggle to maintain daily transport options.

What's the endgame? KG Motors wants to embed the mibot in everyday life, partnering with local governments and businesses on pilots. Trials are already underway, according to the company.

Why NTT Docomo? As part of the NTT Docomo Group, the investor brings communication networks and data infrastructure to mobility. It says the tie-up will strengthen collaboration on technology that supports sustainable development.

The signal: The deal reflects a growing bet that micro-EVs — not full-size cars — can plug the transport gaps left by shrinking rural populations. Backing from a telecoms-linked fund also hints at where connected, data-driven mobility may head next.
