Why now? Seth argues India has long imported strategic technology rather than building it. "Every rupee in this fund is a bet on building India's technological sovereignty and industrial self-sufficiency," he said, adding that the firm will "back builders early, rather than wait for market conviction."
Reddy pointed to Seth's military background as an edge. "His service with the armed forces gives him a rare lens on space, energy, and defence," he said.
The signal: Industrial47 evaluates startups not only on commercial potential but on whether they build capabilities India would eventually need for itself — a thesis tying early-stage venture to strategic autonomy in frontier tech.
