Autonomy raises $8M Series A to finance cars for gig drivers

What's the deal? Argentine fintech Autonomy has raised an $8 million Series A to expand its vehicle-financing platform for drivers on apps such as Uber, DiDi, and Cabify. What's the endgame? Founded in 2022 by José Trusso and Leandro Cuccioli, Autonomy runs a rent-to-own model that bundles the car, insurance, maintenance, and permits into a single monthly payment. Instead of checking bank credit histories, it assesses drivers on their performance data across mobility platforms.

Why now? Autonomy already runs more than 1,500 vehicles, up from just 10 when it started operating in 2023. It receives around 3,000 applications a month but can currently serve only about half that demand.

The fresh capital will fund vehicle purchases, technology, and regional expansion across Argentina and the Southern Cone. The company, part of Endeavor ArgentinaDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →'s ScaleUp program, aims to reach a fleet of 10,000 vehicles by December 2027.

What could go wrong? The model ties Autonomy's growth to buying physical cars, a capital-heavy path that scales more slowly than software. Argentina's inflation and currency swings also raise the cost of both financing and fleet expansion.

The signal: Gig workers often generate steady income yet fall outside traditional banking. Autonomy's bet is that platform performance data can replace credit scores — a lending approach gaining ground across Latin America's underbanked workforce.
