Sisu buys Helical Energy to turn turbine waste heat into power
What's the deal? Tulsa-based Sisu Energy & Environmental has acquired Helical EnergyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom →, a maker of patented waste-heat recovery, steam-generation, and power-production systems. Terms were not disclosed. Helical captures otherwise-wasted heat from gas turbine exhaust and converts it into electric power.
What's the endgame? The deal positions the combined company as a single-source provider of engineered gas turbine exhaust solutions, spanning emissions control, noise abatement, energy recovery, and power production. Sisu already sells emissions-control, acoustic, and energy-recovery systems for gas turbines.
Why now? The combination targets data centers and other large energy users racing to add power capacity. Waste-heat recovery lets these facilities increase power output while staying within permitted emissions limits.
"Our customers are being asked to deliver more power, faster, and with a smaller environmental footprint," said John Hare, chief executive officer of Sisu. "Together with Helical, we can help them do all three."
Helical founder Mark Wickham called the company's steam and power technology "a clearly compelling product for any power provider looking to meaningfully increase plant efficiency without adding incremental harmful, toxic pollutants into the environment."
What changes? Helical will keep serving its existing customers while working with Sisu to build on its market presence and relationships.
The signal: As data centers strain the grid, suppliers are consolidating to offer end-to-end power and emissions solutions. Sisu is betting that customers want a single vendor for distributed generation and industrial energy efficiency.
