By the numbers: The round ranks in the first percentile by size among seed rounds in Boldr's sector and country over the trailing 48 months, based on a sample of 67 deals. In plain terms, it sits at the smaller end of comparable raises.

What's the endgame? Boldr is building around its new Universal Thermostat, designed to work across a broad range of North American HVAC equipment, from ductless mini-splits to conventional central systems. Its wireless architecture communicates with an equipment-side subbase, cutting the need to pull new thermostat wire.

Why it matters: Missing thermostat wire can turn a simple install into hours of fishing wire, drilling, and patching drywall. Boldr estimates its approach can save $300 to $500 in labour and material costs per applicable job.

More than hardware: Every installation connects into Boldr's contractor platform, giving HVAC businesses data and diagnostics across their installed base. The platform aims to identify problems earlier, reduce unnecessary truck rolls, and build recurring service relationships — valuable as private equity consolidates the contractor market.

Where the money goes: The funding will support Boldr's expansion from ductless controls into residential and commercial central HVAC, accelerate development of its contractor platform, and widen adoption and distribution across the US and Canada.

The signal: Boldr frames its longer-term bet on energy: HVAC systems are among the largest energy assets in the home, and it wants millions of connected homes to eventually provide flexible capacity back to the grid. The near-term wager is simpler — that contractors will favour a control they can install across more equipment, faster, while gaining software to monetise every job long after the truck leaves.
