Weave raises $13.5M Series A to measure AI coding ROI

What's the deal? San Francisco-based Weave has raised a $13.5 million Series A to help companies measure the real business impact of AI-assisted software development. The engineering intelligence startup wants to eliminate what it calls "tokenmaxxing" — optimising AI coding tools for token volume rather than meaningful progress. The round was led by Standard Capital, with participation from Y Combinator, Moonfire Ventures, Burst Capital, PreGene, and the Agent Fund.

Why now? AI coding assistants have changed how teams measure output. A single prompt can generate thousands of lines of code in seconds, making metrics such as commit counts and lines of code less reliable.

What's the endgame? Weave's platform analyses both human and AI contributions across the software development lifecycle. It tracks pull requests, code reviews, deployments, and AI-generated work, then uses machine learning models to connect coding activity with business progress. The new capital will fund product development and expand the platform as enterprises spend more on AI coding tools.

The startup says its platform has already analysed more than 2,000,000 human and AI code contributions across over 20,000 engineers at more than 500 organisations. Customers include Robinhood, Reducto, and PostHog.

The signal: Businesses are spending heavily on tools from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, GitHub, and Cursor, yet finance executives struggle to link soaring bills to measurable outcomes. That gap is fuelling a broader push to rethink whether old engineering metrics still reflect real productivity in an era when AI writes a growing share of code.
