Cathie Wood buys $8.84M of Cerebras after 29% post-IPO slide
What's the deal? Cathie Wood's ARK InvestDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → bought around $8.84 million of Cerebras Systems stock on August 18, according to TipRanks data. The purchase came with shares down nearly 29% since the AI-chip company's May IPO.
Why now? The bet leans on Cerebras' longer-term AI opportunity rather than its current numbers. It recently launched the CS-4 system, which it says runs AI inference up to 30 times faster than standard GPU-based systems, with shipments due to start in the third quarter.
The numbers: Second-quarter revenue rose 74% to $180.1 million but missed Wall Street estimates, while gross margin slipped to 40.6%. Cloud revenue nearly quadrupled to $126 million, and Cerebras raised its 2026 core revenue projection to between $880 million and $890 million.
What could go wrong? The financial picture is mixed. The open question is whether fast cloud growth can offset near-term margin pressure.
The signal: Wood's purchase is a vote of confidence in a stumbling new listing, wagering that demand for faster, non-GPU AI inference will reward patient investors despite a rocky market debut.
