TMC buys tranScrip out of administration, saving 45 jobs

The players: tranScrip, headquartered in Berkshire with operations in Ireland, supports biotech and small pharma companies with expert drug development capabilities for complex programmes. TMC, established in 2001, is a global pharma services company operating across the UK, US and Ireland, plus a contractor network spanning more than 70 countries.

What could go wrong? Pre-pack administrations move fast and can strain client and staff confidence. Integrating tranScrip's team and relationships without disruption will be key to retaining value.

Simon Estcourt, chief executive officer of TMC, said the combination "strengthens our ability to support clients throughout the development lifecycle while creating new opportunities for growth and collaboration."

Harrison noted that tranScrip "has played an important role in the innovation and commercialisation of new medicines, including treatments for Covid-19, as well as immunological and gene therapies."

The signal: The rescue underscores continued consolidation among pharma services firms, as buyers absorb distressed specialist consultancies to broaden their end-to-end drug development offering.
