Try Dealroom →, selling part of its holding to the chain's promoters while keeping a significant stake. The investment firm announced the transaction on August 13, 2026.

The companies: Kauvery is a South Indian multi-specialty hospital network founded in 1999, starting with a 30-bed facility in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. It now runs 13 facilities and more than 2,500 beds across six cities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, employing over 12,000 people.

Why now? The partial exit lands as Kauvery outlines fresh expansion. Founder and executive chairman Dr. S. Chandrakumar said the group is targeting 5,000 beds and entry into new cities while maintaining clinical standards.

What's the endgame? Lightrock first invested in Kauvery in August 2019 and worked with the group on network expansion, clinical capabilities, and wider healthcare access across South India. It holds a board seat, currently occupied by Samir Abhyankar, its partner and head of India.

Lightrock said its retained ownership reflects an intention to stay involved with Kauvery's long-term development rather than fully exit. Lightrock Growth Fund IDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → closed with $900 million in commitments in June 2021 and backs growth-stage businesses across Europe, Latin America, and India.

The signal: The deal illustrates how growth investors are locking in partial returns from India's expanding private hospital sector while betting on further scale — a structure that lets promoters regain equity as Lightrock stays on for the next phase of growth.
