What it means. Zankore will supply AI computing capacity to cloud and enterprise customers, with plans to scale to as much as 1 gigawatt of NVIDIA DSX AI Factory capacity. The first phase is expected to bring roughly 200MW online in the first half of 2027, using NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 systems and DSX MaxLPS technology to improve power efficiency across graphics processing units.
Why now? The deal moves Ooredoo beyond connectivity and conventional data centres. The group recently secured QAR 2 billion in financing to accelerate its data-centre expansion, while Zankore adds a dedicated AI-compute layer to a portfolio spanning international fibre, subsea cable networks and AI-ready data centres.
The signal. Telecoms operators are repositioning as regional AI-infrastructure players, chasing demand in Southeast Asia's growing markets. For Ooredoo, a minority stake in Zankore is a bet on owning compute as well as the networks that connect it.
