Tobasa lands R$9.3M Finep grant for babassu-based activated carbon

What it means. Tobasa will use the grant to develop a technological route for producing activated carbon from babassu coconut, making fuller use of industrial waste while supporting sustainable land use. The material is used mainly in water treatment and in industrial and commercial filtration.

Why now? The project targets decarbonisation of production processes and is scheduled to run until February 2028. It is based in Tocantins, part of Brazil's Legal Amazon, highlighting the region's bioeconomy potential.
