Ex-A16z partner Bryan Kim targets $100M for debut consumer AI fund

What's the deal?

Bryan Kim , a former partner at Andreessen Horowitz, is launching his own venture firm, Mido Capital, and plans to raise about $100 million for its debut fund, according to people familiar with the situation. He filed formation documents for Mido in Delaware in July 2026. The first fund will back early-stage consumer AI and other companies.

Why now?

Kim announced his departure from A16z in April 2026, after more than five years. "It is simply time to build," he wrote. "We are still so early in the AI revolution."

What's the endgame?

Kim specialised in consumer tech and AI deals at A16z. He was an early backer of AI voice startup ElevenLabs — valued at $11 billion in 2026 — which A16z co-led through its Series A and B rounds. His other bets include lab-testing firm Function Health, online-invitations business Partiful, and mental health AI company SlingshotAI.

The signal:

Kim's move continues a pattern of senior investors leaving big-name firms to strike out alone. His bet is that a niche dominated by giants such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI still leaves room for early-stage founders — and for a fund built to find them.
