Alma buys ESP Solutions Group to reach state education agencies

The deal extends Alma's connected education platform from schools and districts to state education agencies. Terms were not disclosed.
What does each side do? Portland-based Alma runs a platform combining student information, enrollment, communications, payments, analytics, artificial intelligence, and family engagement. Founded in 1993, ESP has spent more than three decades helping education agencies collect, validate, and report data.
What's the endgame? Alma supports organizations whose data impacts more than six million students. ESP adds statewide data collection and reporting expertise, strengthening Alma's ability to help clients manage complex information.
Why now? As education grows more complex, the flow of information between schools, districts, and state agencies becomes more important. "Together, we're expanding Alma's connected platform to support education organizations at every level," said Andrew Herman, chief executive officer and co-founder of Alma.
What changes for customers? Existing Alma customers get continued investment plus stronger state reporting capabilities over time. ESP customers gain stability for the solutions they use today. The entire ESP team joins Alma, with Paul Cormal leading the transition.
The signal: The deal reflects a push to unify education technology across every administrative level. "Joining Alma carries that work forward with modern technology, greater scale, and a shared commitment to a more connected future for education," said ESP founder Glynn Ligon.
