Tripledot buys Supersonic from Unity for about $40M

What's the deal? Tripledot Studios has acquired SupersonicDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → from Unity for approximately $40 million, GamesBeat reported. London-based Tripledot makes casual mobile puzzle games including Woodoku, Triple Tile and Nut Short; Supersonic runs a game publishing business. The deal has closed, with Unity supporting a roughly three-month transition.

Why now? Unity said in its most recent earnings call that it is refocusing on its core game engine and Vector AI advertising platform. As part of that shift, it has been exiting lower-margin businesses, winding down the ironSource Ads Network and divesting Supersonic's publishing arm.

The backstory: Supersonic joined Unity through the company's 2022 all-stock merger with ironSource, valued at $4.4 billion. The roughly $40 million sale marks a sharp step down from that headline figure.

What's the endgame? For Tripledot, the deal adds a publishing team, technology, and portfolio that fit its core business, chief executive officer Lior Shiff said. Supersonic chief executive officer Igor Bereslavski framed it as finding "a new home built specifically around scaled game publishing."

Both companies stressed that developer partners keep the same core team, tools, and hands-on support, now backed by Tripledot's wider resources.

The signal: Shiff argued that AI has reshaped game-making, letting tiny teams "prototype, iterate, and ship a genuinely great game in a fraction of the time." But cheaper production means more competition, making user acquisition, capital, and data science the real differentiators — capabilities he says small studios increasingly cannot build alone. The deal reflects both Unity's retreat to its core and a broader consolidation around scaled publishers.
