What's the endgame? Aurelius is building Archimedes, a laser platform designed to shoot down drones "without escalation", in the words of KAS partner Julian Handel. Where the money goes: Aurelius plans to advance Archimedes, scale production and pursue vertical integration to cut supply-chain risk and secure critical components. It also aims to broaden its platform and enter new markets.
Why now? The round follows an integration partnership with American Rheinmetall, plus platform validation at the T-REX 26-2 and Operation Jailbreak exercises. LaFramboise argues that coordinated drone threats have "fundamentally changed the definition of 'readiness.'"
The signal: At $40 million, the round lands in the 93rd percentile of all-time US deep-tech Series A deals, a sample of 4,221 rounds. That places Aurelius among the better-funded early-stage bets in a sector where investor appetite for autonomous defence is climbing fast.
