European Commission's Scaleup Europe Fund makes first investment in ICEYE
The European Commission's Scaleup Europe Fund is making its first investment in ICEYE: a €450 million primary investment announced by EQT on 5 August 2026. The investment is the headline development in the latest announcement and comes alongside General Atlantic.
ICEYE's Series F financing closed in June 2026 with €1 billion in total funding: €450 million of primary capital and €550 million of secondary funding, at a valuation exceeding €10 billion. The current announcement covers a €450 million primary investment from the Scaleup Europe Fund.
Established by the European Commission alongside European investors and managed by EQT, the Scaleup Europe Fund targets €5 billion for strategically important European companies across areas including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, dual-use technologies, clean energy, space, biotech and medical innovation.
ICEYE, founded in Finland in 2014, owns and operates one of the world's largest synthetic aperture radar satellite constellations. It delivers end-to-end sovereign systems for seven European governments and has operations in Finland, Poland, Spain and Greece, alongside new entities in Germany and Portugal.
The European fund's €450 million primary investment gives the latest announcement its significance: it puts European growth capital behind a space and defence company already valued at more than €10 billion, while the June financing provides the wider €1 billion Series F context.
