Turkish steelmaker Kardemir Çelik lists on Borsa Istanbul with 4x demand

What's the endgame? The company will use proceeds for raw material procurement and facility investments, according to Borsa Istanbul general manager Korkmaz Ergun. Chairman Tevfik Önder Karalp said Kardemir has recently invested to raise production capacity and strengthen its technological infrastructure.

Why now? Karalp said the company aims to accelerate growth, improve efficiency, and climb the rankings among Turkey's largest industrial companies. It also plans to expand in international markets and pursue new partnerships to build the brand as a global player.

By the numbers: The IPO drew demand more than four times its offering size. Some 814,853 new investors became shareholders following the listing.

The signal: Strong retail and institutional appetite for a capacity-driven, export-focused steelmaker points to continued investor interest in Turkey's industrial base — and to Borsa Istanbul's role as a funding channel for manufacturers seeking capital to expand.
