UniCredit brings 100+ ultra-wealthy clients into WeRoad, two months after $58M round

What's the deal? UniCredit has led a secondary share sale in WeRoad, bringing more than 100 of the bank's Ultra High Net Worth clients into the Italian travel-tech scaleup. The club deal lets a select group of investors buy stakes held by longstanding shareholders, rather than injecting fresh capital into the company.

Why now? The transaction comes just over two months after WeRoad closed a $58 million Series C led by Airbnb in May 2026 — the largest raise in its history. That deal took total funding to roughly $100 million and is meant to fund the scaleup's first expansion outside Europe, starting with the US.

What does WeRoad do? Founded in 2017, WeRoad turns group travel into a community experience, pairing solo travellers in small groups led by trip coordinators. It runs an asset-light model combining proprietary technology and an integrated ecosystem of experiences.

The numbers: WeRoad reported revenue above €100 million in 2025, driven by strong international growth. Its reference shareholders include OneDay GroupDealroom has a profile for this one. What's the endgame? The secondary sale reshapes WeRoad's cap table. Early investors can cash out part of the value they built without waiting for a listing or a full sale, while the company widens its base of qualified investors.

The signal: In Italy, where liquidity options for startup investors remain limited, club deals bridge private wealth and venture capital. The move points to a market slowly finding new ways to recycle capital back into growth-stage companies.
