Arcadis buys Spain's SATEL to double Iberian power business

What's the deal?

Arcadis has agreed to acquire SATEL , a Zaragoza-based power design and engineering specialist with 250 employees, doubling its business across Iberia. The move strengthens Arcadis' position in Europe's grid modernisation, renewable energy, and hyperscale data center markets.

What each side brings:

SATEL has more than 35 years of experience in transmission and distribution networks, substations, high-voltage infrastructure, renewables, and data center power. It has worked on projects spanning more than 20,000km of high-voltage lines and over 1,000 substations.

The acquisition combines Arcadis' advisory, environmental, and permitting strengths with SATEL's specialist design and engineering capabilities. Together, they can support clients from planning and permitting through grid connection, engineering, and delivery.

Why now?

Spain is investing more than €20 billion in its grid through 2030, driven by electrification, renewables, and digital infrastructure demand. SATEL has already supported over 6,500MW of installed data center capacity across Iberia.

What's the endgame?

The deal follows Arcadis' acquisition of Germany's KUA Group in 2025, extending a push to build out its European power and data center capabilities.

"SATEL strengthens Arcadis' power infrastructure capabilities in one of Europe's fastest-growing markets," said Heather Polinsky, chief executive officer of Arcadis.

SATEL chief executive officer Pablo Bernad called the deal "a natural next step," adding that it broadens the firm's "range of expertise and global delivery capability."

The signal:

As Europe races to power its energy transition and data center boom, consulting and engineering firms are consolidating specialist talent to offer full-lifecycle infrastructure services. Arcadis is betting that grid and power expertise will be the scarce commodity underpinning both trends.
