MILA Stories raises $800K pre-seed to turn WhatsApp chats into books with AI

Argentine-founded, Miami-based startup MILA Stories has raised $800,000 in a pre-seed round for its platform that turns scattered digital memories into books, e-books, and videos. Founded by Ezequiel Fonseca Zas, the company uses AI to interview people through WhatsApp and weave their answers into unified narratives.

An organiser creates a project, chooses who to honour, and invites family, friends, or colleagues via a link. The AI then holds individual WhatsApp conversations with each participant, gathering text, audio, photos, and video before turning it all into a finished product.

Users can start a project and invite collaborators for free, paying only when they convert a story into a product. Prices start at $4.99 for videos, $19 for e-books, and $59 for printed books. The round was backed mainly by three family offices and around ten friends-and-family investors.

The project began after Fonseca Zas lost his sister and niece in a car accident and set out to reconstruct more than 140 years of family history for his surviving nephew. A friend running a conversational-agent company introduced him to AI, and MILA was born.

In its first months of operation, MILA has generated more than 70,000 WhatsApp conversations and passed 1,500 participants across collaborative projects. It runs a distributed team across Argentina, Spain, Colombia, Mexico, and the US.

The company plans to expand into the US Latino market and projects $3 million in revenue by 2027. It also aims to add new formats such as songs, documentaries, and films built from collected memories.

MILA is betting on "memory tech," a growing category that turns dispersed conversations and files into lasting, organised narratives. Its wager is that AI can automate the work of a ghostwriter — Fonseca Zas says the platform recreates 62 steps of that process — at a scale a single writer never could.
