Alfresa buys stake in US firm Ember to boost pharma cold chain in Japan
Alfresa Holdings said on July 30 that its core pharmaceutical wholesaling unit, Alfresa, has entered a capital and business alliance with US-based Ember LifeSciences . Alfresa has acquired an equity stake in Ember to strengthen pharmaceutical cold-chain logistics in Japan.
The tie-up aims to bolster how temperature-sensitive medicines are stored and moved across Japan. Cold-chain logistics keeps drugs within strict temperature ranges from manufacturing to delivery.
As more biologics and other temperature-sensitive therapies enter the market, wholesalers face pressure to upgrade their handling. The deal points to Japanese distributors turning to overseas technology partners to keep pace.
