Sungrow backs RMB 1B fund for wind, solar, and storage projects

Who's putting in what? Sungrow New Energy commits RMB 199 million, or 19.90%, as a limited partner. Huatai Asset Management supplies RMB 800 million, or 80%, while general partner Huatai Baoli adds RMB 1 million and serves as managing partner and fund manager.

Where the money goes: The fund targets wind power, centralized photovoltaic, and energy storage projects. Individual projects should carry installed capacity of at least 200MW, with priority for those already grid-connected or equipped with ultra-high voltage transmission.

The terms: The vehicle runs for 30 years and requires a project equity internal rate of return of at least 8%. It must also comply with regulations governing insurance capital investments.

What's the endgame? The fund will mainly back projects recommended by Sungrow New Energy. Sungrow subsidiaries may later provide operation and maintenance and power trading services for those assets, feeding its renewable energy investment business.

The signal: By pairing developer expertise with large insurance-backed capital, Sungrow secures a long-term financing channel for utility-scale renewables — turning project pipelines into recurring returns across the fund's lifespan.
