The block deal carries a floor price of ₹1,535.10 per share — about 2.9% below the previous close of ₹1,580.20 — and could be worth around ₹4,895 crore if fully sold.
What happened next? Shares saw a volatile session. About 1.92 crore shares, worth nearly ₹2,949 crore, changed hands in a block transaction at ₹1,535.10. The stock opened lower at around ₹1,573 before recovering to ₹1,596.45 in early BSE trade.
Why it's not a founder exit: Sharma's direct 9.03% holding stays unchanged. Resilient — a Netherlands entity he wholly owns — acquired a roughly 10.2% Paytm holding from AntfinDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → in August 2023 via optionally convertible debentures. Resilient took the voting rights, while Antfin kept the economic interest, so the sale's proceeds flow to Antfin, not Sharma.
The base deal covers about 1.92 crore shares, roughly 3% of the company, with an upsize option for a further 1.27 crore shares. A 90-day lock-up linked to the transaction could limit further selling during that period.
What could go wrong? A sizeable block sale can pressure a stock short term as the market absorbs extra supply. The ₹1,535.10 floor gives traders a reference level to watch, but the deal does not by itself change Paytm's operations.
The business backdrop: Paytm's first-quarter fiscal 2027 results showed revenue from operations up 28% year on year to ₹2,448 crore, net profit up 79% to ₹220 crore, and EBITDA at a record ₹203 crore.
The signal: The sale marks the tail end of Alibaba and Ant's long unwind from Paytm, both having exited their direct stakes by 2025. For investors, the immediate question is whether Paytm holds above the block price once initial selling pressure clears — a test of sentiment rather than fundamentals.
