Procore to buy DroneDeploy for $845M to build AI-driven construction platform
What's the deal? Procore Technologies has agreed to acquire DroneDeploy for approximately $845 million in cash, the construction software firm said. DroneDeploy, a reality capture and robotics platform, is used on more than 3 million jobsites across over 180 countries.
What does each company do? Procore, listed on the NYSE, provides construction management software used by field teams to document projects and coordinate work. DroneDeploy captures visual data through drones, ground robots, and mobile, fixed, and wearable cameras, turning site imagery into digital insights.
What's the endgame? Procore wants to evolve from a "system of collaboration and record" into what it calls the "system of intelligence for construction." Pairing DroneDeploy's imaging with Procore AI is meant to let construction teams automatically document observations, flag issues earlier, and trigger actions inside the platform.
Why now? The construction industry faces an acute labor shortage, straining field teams. Procore argues that automated inspections — cameras, drones, and robots that evaluate a site and initiate responses — can ease the load on overstretched crews.
What changes for customers? Once the deal closes, Procore plans to immediately cross-sell DroneDeploy's tools to its customer base and vice versa. "Our customers have consistently told us the same thing — they want reality capture to be a native part of how they work, not another tool bolted on," said Mike Winn, chief executive officer of DroneDeploy.
The signal: The deal reflects a broader push to layer AI onto industry-specific data. Procore chief executive officer Ajei GopalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → said the company aims to "deliver digital coworkers that track what's happening on a project, make sense of it, and then take action to change the outcome," combining DroneDeploy's imaging with Procore's record of nearly 400 million photos and over 126 million drawings.
