Colorado offers Alterra $3.9M to keep ski giant's HQ in Denver
What's the deal? The Colorado Economic Development Commission approved $3.9 million in incentives in late July 2026 to help Alterra Mountain Co.Dealroom has a profile for this one. What's it look like in practice? The tax credits are tied to the creation of 106 additional headquarters jobs under the codename "Project Odysseus." Those roles are expected to pay an average annual wage of $131,071.
Why now? Alterra told the state it was also weighing a move to Salt Lake City. State rules bar incentive awards to local companies that are not actively looking outside Colorado, so the competing bid mattered.
What's the endgame? Alterra is moving out of Zeppelin Station at 3501 Wazee St. in Denver's RiNo district, where it leases about 40% of the building. The relocation keeps its corporate base in the state.
The signal: The speed at which the assistance packages came together suggests a genuine concern that Alterra might leave. For Colorado, retaining a headquarters and its high-wage jobs was worth $3.9 million.
