Ossprey raises $2.65M pre-seed to catch malicious code in open-source software

What's the deal? UK startup OsspreyDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → has raised $2.65 million in an oversubscribed pre-seed round to scan open-source software packages for malicious code before they reach production. Episode 1 Ventures led the round, with Osney CapitalDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → and Octopus Ventures participating.

What's the endgame? Founded by Nate Dunning and David Read, Ossprey continuously scans open-source packages for malware, letting development teams ship securely without slowing engineering workflows. The company will use the funding to build out its product and grow its engineering and commercial teams.

Why now? Around 90% of enterprise software relies on open-source components, and attackers increasingly hide malicious code inside trusted packages to breach organisations through legitimate workflows. AI coding assistants are speeding up development and pushing more code into production, widening the attack surface.

"We founded Ossprey because existing approaches weren't designed for the pace modern engineering teams now operate at," said Dunning, chief executive officer. "Organisations shouldn't have to choose between shipping software quickly and building it securely."

What's next? Ossprey plans to expand across the UK, Europe, and North America, targeting enterprises building software at scale. It is also preparing for a larger funding round to support its next stage of growth.

The signal: At $2.65 million, the round sits in the top tier for pre-seed deals, ranking in roughly the 61st percentile by amount. As AI accelerates code output, investors are betting that securing the software supply chain is becoming a core enterprise concern rather than a niche one.
