Anthropic, Blackstone launch $1.5B AI services firm Ode

Anthropic, Blackstone, and Hellman & Friedman have launched Ode with Anthropic, a $1.5 billion standalone AI implementation firm that pairs Anthropic's models with engineers who deploy them inside client companies. First announced in May, it now carries an official name and brand.

Ode is led by Chris Taylor as chief executive officer and Eddie Siegel as chief technologist, both Fractional co-founders who held the same roles there. The investor consortium also includes Goldman Sachs, General Atlantic, Leonard Green & Partners, Apollo Global Management, GIC, and Sequoia Capital.

Frontier labs increasingly accept that winning enterprise customers takes more than shipping better models. The move follows OpenAI's own version, The Deployment Company — and Fractional ended an 11-month partnership with OpenAI when it was acquired.

Blackstone conceived Ode after spotting a gap while using consulting firms and boutiques to roll out AI across its portfolio companies. Those private equity backers will funnel their portfolio companies to Ode as potential customers, though sales won't be limited to them.

Ode operates on a "Claude-first" principle, implementing Anthropic's technology whenever possible but using rival products when needed. "I think model selection matters, but it's not where the majority of calories are spent," Siegel said, describing implementation quality as the venture's edge.

The bet is hyper-growth without losing rigour. "It's pretty easy to imagine this as a trillion-dollar company someday if we execute well," Taylor told TechCrunch. "The key challenge of the business is how do you go through that phase of hyper growth without losing the emphasis on quality?"

The launch reflects a growing conviction among AI labs that implementation, not models alone, is the next trillion-dollar category. As Anthropic's Garvan Doyle put it, mid-size firms moving from experimenting with AI to building it into operations "need partners with real implementation depth."
