Logical raises Rs. 150M seed, becomes first all-Sri Lankan team in Y Combinator

It is believed to be the first fully Sri Lankan founding team accepted into the Silicon Valley accelerator.
What's the product? Logical is building a proactive desktop AI copilot for knowledge workers. Unlike chatbots that wait for prompts, it reads a user's work context across apps and helps them act — drafting emails, writing docs, taking meeting notes, and detecting action items with a few clicks.
Who's behind it? Co-founders Samurdhi Karunaratne (chief executive officer) and Anushka Idamekorala (chief technology officer) met at age six at Dharmaraja College in Kandy. Karunaratne graduated from the University of Peradeniya, won a PhD scholarship from UCLA, and worked at NVIDIA; Idamekorala graduated from the University of Moratuwa and placed first in Sri Lanka in the IEEEXtreme programming contest.
Why now? Y Combinator runs a selective three-month programme in San Francisco that helps early-stage companies refine products, grow users, and prepare to raise. Its alumni include Airbnb, Dropbox, Stripe, and Reddit, making acceptance a notable step for a startup targeting global scale.
What's the endgame? The founders want to show world-class AI products can be built by Sri Lankan engineers. "Logical is a deeply technical product, and our goal is to build technology that can stand alongside the best companies coming out of Silicon Valley," Idamekorala said.
The signal: The round and YC slot mark a step up for the team and a rare marker for Sri Lanka's startup scene. As Karunaratne put it, it "reinforced our belief that Sri Lankan founders should not be afraid to dream much bigger about the companies they can build."
