Goldi Solar raises $170M as India's solar manufacturing funding hits $460M

What's the deal?

Goldi Solar has raised 14.22 billion INR ($170 million) in a growth equity round led by Havells India. The Indian solar module maker's raise is among the largest strategic-backed deals in the country's manufacturing sector this year.

By the numbers:

The round sits in the 90th percentile for non-VC growth equity deals in India over the trailing 48 months, based on a sample of 455 rounds. It forms part of roughly $460 million private equity investors have poured into Indian solar manufacturers in 2026.

Why now?

That figure marks a steep climb from $322.5 million in 2025 and just $29.3 million in 2021. Government mechanisms — the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) — have given companies a clearer path to scale while guaranteeing demand for locally made components.

What's the endgame?

Capital is shifting Indian manufacturers upstream, from module assembly toward integrated facilities for cells, wafers, and ingots. The goal is a self-reliant domestic supply chain that reduces reliance on cheaper imports.

Who else is raising?

Goldi Solar is part of a wider wave. GREW Solar raised 10.5 billion INR from Bay Capital, while ReNew Photovoltaics secured $100 million from British International Investment.

What could go wrong?

The sector is capital-intensive and exposed to execution delays and swings in commodity prices for raw materials like polysilicon. As new capacity comes online, holding competitive margins and managing debt will be critical tests.

The signal:

India's solar manufacturing has moved from an under-funded, import-squeezed industry to a priority for strategic investors chasing policy-backed demand. The pace of investment — up more than 15-fold since 2021 — reflects a bet that domestic sourcing mandates and schemes such as PM Kusum and PM Surya Ghar will keep revenue outlooks stable.
