InvestEco closes C$106M food fund IV, its largest to date

What's the deal?

InvestEco Capital has held a final close of its InvestEco Sustainable Food Fund IV, securing C$106 million in commitments. The Toronto-based venture and impact investor said it was the largest fund in its history.

Who's backing it?

Seventy limited partners committed to Fund IV. Backers include crown corporations Farm Credit Canada, Export Development Canada, and Business Development Bank of Canada, alongside labour fund Fonds de solidarité FTQ.

Two Government of Canada Social Finance Fund wholesalers, Boann and Realize Capital Partners, also committed, as did private investors and family offices.

What's the endgame?

InvestEco, founded in 2002, invests in high-growth food companies that promote health and sustainability. The firm expects to make a further six to 10 investments over the coming years.

Fund IV has already backed Humble Snacks, Little Sesame, Mid-Day Squares, and Algae Cooking Club.

The signal:

Heavy public-sector backing—crown corporations and federal social finance wholesalers—points to government appetite for channelling capital into sustainable food. For InvestEco, growing to its biggest fund yet signals steady LP conviction in the sector after more than two decades of specialising in it.
