Keepit upsizes credit facilities to $90M as it bets on AI data services

What's the deal?

Danish cloud data protection firm Keepit has renewed and upsized its credit facilities to $90 million, backed by HSBC Innovation Banking and the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO).

The debt financing consolidates and extends terms to match the company's growth plans. Proceeds will fund product development — chiefly a new range of AI services — plus expanded sales capacity and deeper enterprise reach.

Why now?

The refinancing builds on Keepit's $50 million equity raise in December 2024 and a $60 million facility upsizing in September 2025.

Keepit now serves more than 25,000 organisations and has added customers in regulated industries, where immutable, vendor-independent backup is a compliance requirement.

The company is preparing to launch AI services that help organisations govern, search, and extract value from their protected data. It expects these to contribute meaningfully to growth from 2026.

What could go wrong?

Debt sharpens the pressure to perform. Keepit must convert its AI ambitions into revenue to justify the doubled-down commitment from its lenders.

The AI data governance space is also crowded, with established backup and security vendors racing to attach intelligence layers to stored data.

The signal:

Now a late-stage company, Keepit is leaning on debt rather than dilution to fund its pivot from pure SaaS backup — for Office 365, Google Apps, and Salesforce — into AI-powered data governance. The repeated backing from HSBC Innovation Banking and Denmark's state-owned EIFO, following the December 2024 equity raise and September 2025 upsizing, signals that lenders see recurring backup revenue as a reliable base to underwrite that bet.
