The San Francisco company lets businesses train and run workloads on open models like DeepSeek, Nemotron, and Kimi. Customers report savings of 6x to 60x versus closed systems.

Why now? Companies building with AI face a hard truth: frontier-model pricing can eat their entire margin.

Open-source usage tripled over the year to mid-2026, and nearly three-quarters of organisations expect to use more of it, according to McKinsey. Together AI's annual bookings crossed $1.15 billion in Q2 2026.

It now serves thousands of paying customers, including Cursor, Cognition, and Decagon, which cut inference costs sixfold after switching.

What it means. Together AI plans to grow its infrastructure footprint roughly 50-fold over the next five years — a capital-hungry bet that ties its fortunes to sustained open-source demand. Frontier labs could also cut prices or narrow the performance gap, eroding the cost advantage that draws customers to open models.

The signal: The shift to open source is becoming the default for companies that want to scale AI without losing margin.

"Intelligence is becoming a foundational resource for the modern economy, every bit as essential as electricity, bandwidth or capital," said co-founder and CEO Vipul Ved PrakashDealroom has a profile for this one.
