NeuroBell raises €4.8M to bring AI seizure monitor for newborns to US hospitals
Cork-based medtech startup NeuroBell has raised €4.8 million ($5.5 million) to launch its AI-powered brain monitor for newborns in US hospitals.
The wireless device, called LUNA, uses electroencephalography (EEG) and AI to help neonatal staff detect seizures in babies faster.
The round was led by Irish firm Elkstone and included US healthcare provider Parkview Health, alongside existing backers Furthr VC, Atlantic Bridge, MedTech Syndicate, and Enterprise Ireland.
Around two-thirds of seizures in newborns have no visible symptoms, and every untreated hour raises the risk of long-term brain damage.
LUNA completed a clinical study at Cork University Maternity Hospital in 2025, closely matching traditional monitors while producing fewer false alerts.
The funding will support a US launch as NeuroBell prepares to seek approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It also plans a European rollout.
The device still needs FDA clearance before it can be sold in the US, a process that can be slow and costly.
Convincing hospitals to adopt new diagnostic tools is also a hurdle, though Parkview's investment builds on an existing clinical partnership. The provider runs 15 hospitals and employs more than 17,500 people across Indiana and Ohio.
The round underscores how corporate healthcare backers are increasingly co-investing alongside venture funds to fast-track adoption of AI diagnostics — Parkview Health, a corporate investor running 15 hospitals across Indiana and Ohio, gives this early-stage spinout a ready-made route into US NICUs. For NeuroBell, still at the early stage and only founded in 2023, securing both a domestic lead in Elkstone and a US clinical partner positions it to convert nearly a decade of University College Cork research into commercial deployment.
