8090's "Software Factory" uses AI to design new systems and refactor legacy ones for customers in highly regulated industries: healthcare, insurance, aerospace, energy, financial services, and the US government.
Why now? Palihapitiya says demand is accelerating, and the capital will fund two priorities: hiring, and the compute and infrastructure needed to deliver at scale. The round also marks a shift for the investor, who is returning to a full-time operating role for the first time since leaving Facebook.
The signal: The raise reflects a broader bet that AI can move beyond consumer tools into the regulated enterprise core, where reliability matters most. 8090 plans to package its enterprise playbook into a product for everyone, from small businesses to solo founders — whether that scales remains the open question.
