Uncovr raises $7 million to build the system of intelligence for surgery

Founded in 2025 by Ines Iraki (chief executive officer), Johann Diep (chief technology officer), and Prof. Eric Vibert (medical co-founder), Uncovr generates procedural coding and operative reports directly from surgical video and intraoperative workflow data. The goal: more accurate reimbursement, stronger clinical records, and better visibility into what actually happens in the operating room.
Why now? More than 400 million surgeries are performed globally each year, and the majority — particularly minimally invasive and robotic procedures — are now captured on high-definition video. Yet that footage is largely ignored once the surgeon leaves the room.
Instead, surgeons write operative reports from memory, often while exhausted. Most reports fail to include at least 70% of recommended clinical information, according to the company. In Uncovr's own early analysis, missed billable steps appeared in 16% of procedures, with a roughly 10% reimbursement gap that human review hadn't caught.
The founding team brings domain credibility. Vibert is chief of surgery at AP-HP, one of Europe's largest hospital systems. Diep previously built AI systems for autonomous environments in defence and at the European Space Agency. Iraki spotted the documentation gap while working in healthcare and spending time inside operating rooms.
What could go wrong? Healthcare AI faces steep regulatory and adoption hurdles. Hospitals are notoriously slow to integrate new software, and handling sensitive surgical video raises significant data privacy and compliance concerns. Uncovr will also need to prove clinical accuracy at scale — errors in automated operative reports could carry serious patient safety implications.
The signal: Index Ventures leading a $7 million seed for a startup founded only in 2025 — one that already has a pipeline of more than 400 operating rooms — underscores how urgently investors view the opportunity in unstructured healthcare data. With angel backing from Jean Nehme, whose Digital Surgery was acquired by Medtronic, Uncovr is drawing capital from people who have already built and exited in the surgical AI space, suggesting the category is maturing fast.
