Chinese optical comms firm ETU-Link closes series A round

What's the deal? ETU-Link (易天光), a Shenzhen-based optical communications equipment maker, has closed a series A funding round. The investment came from Shenzhen Hesheng High-Tech Technology Co., Ltd. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

ETU-Link develops and manufactures a full range of optical transceivers, high-speed AOC/DAC cables, and optical network accessories. Its products serve ethernet, InfiniBand, and FTTH communications markets.

Why now? Demand for optical modules and high-speed interconnects is surging as data centres scale up to support AI workloads. InfiniBand and high-speed ethernet links — both core to ETU-Link's product line — are critical infrastructure for GPU clusters powering large language models.

China is also pushing to build out domestic supply chains for optical components amid ongoing US export restrictions on advanced chips and networking gear.

What could go wrong? The optical transceiver market is fiercely competitive, with established players like Innolight and Eoptolink dominating the high end. Scaling production while keeping pace with rapidly evolving specs — 800G and 1.6T modules are already in demand — requires significant capital and R&D investment.

Geopolitical tensions could also complicate ETU-Link's access to international customers and certain upstream components.

The signal: This deal reflects broader investor appetite for optical networking plays tied to the AI infrastructure buildout. As hyperscalers race to deploy ever-larger clusters, the companies supplying the physical links between servers and switches stand to benefit — and venture capital is following the signal.
