Myrias Optics raises $2.7M to scale AR waveguide tech

What's the deal? Myrias Optics, a developer of wafer-level metaoptics and diffractive optical technologies, has raised a $2.7M seed extension, bringing its total funding to $7.5M. The company has secured more than 25 customer engagements across AR/VR, data communications, and consumer electronics.

The funding will support Myrias' transition from R&D to pilot production of its all-inorganic metaoptics platform, which it positions as an emerging standard for next-generation AR waveguides.

Why now? The AR hardware market is heating up, and waveguide optics remain one of its biggest bottlenecks. Myrias says its platform produces compact, thermally stable, and scalable optical components using direct nanoimprint lithography of nanoparticle composites — a process that enables high-throughput manufacturing from a single master template.

The company plans to showcase the platform at DisplayWeek 2026 and is already working with Tier 1 supply chain partners to integrate its solutions into commercial products.

What could go wrong? Moving from lab to pilot production is where many deep-tech startups stumble. Myrias must prove it can manufacture at scale while maintaining the optical quality its customers expect. With $7.5M in total funding, the runway is modest for a hardware company navigating a capital-intensive ramp-up.

The signal: The investment reflects growing confidence that AR glasses are nearing a consumer-ready inflection point — and that the optics supply chain needs to catch up. As major tech companies push toward lighter, slimmer AR form factors, component makers like Myrias that can deliver manufacturable waveguide solutions stand to benefit. More than 25 customer engagements at this stage suggest real pull from the market, not just technology push.
