Saf-Gard acquires Work Wear Safety to expand across the US Southwest

What's the deal? Saf-Gard Safety Shoe Company has acquired Work Wear Safety, a regional provider of safety footwear and workplace safety programmes serving Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Arkansas. The deal strengthens Saf-Gard's presence across the Southwest and Central US.

Both companies were founded in 1980, are family-owned, and built on long-term customer relationships. "What stood out most was the reputation they've built through customer relationships and service," said Patrick Kubis, president of Saf-Gard.

Why now? The acquisition fits a deliberate pattern of growth through regional deals. In recent years, Saf-Gard has snapped up Summit Safety Shoes (Pacific Northwest), Quenvold's Safety Shoes (West Coast), and Industrial Protection Products (protective eyewear). Each deal followed the same playbook: acquire a respected local operator, then layer on national resources and systems.

Work Wear Safety's footprint in four states fills a geographic gap in the Southwest, giving Saf-Gard broader coverage without building from scratch.

What could go wrong? Roll-up strategies in fragmented industries can stumble on integration. Retaining the local relationships and service quality that made these regional firms attractive in the first place is easier said than done — especially as the acquirer's footprint grows and corporate standardisation pressures mount.

The signal: The industrial safety market continues to consolidate as national players buy their way into new regions. For niche, family-owned operators, the calculus is shifting: join a larger platform that can offer scale, technology, and broader product lines — or risk losing ground to one that already has. Saf-Gard's strategy mirrors a wider trend of buy-and-build consolidation across workplace safety and services, where local trust still matters but national reach increasingly wins contracts.
