Animoca's venture arm puts $1M into Superior.Trade, seeds $10M agentic-trading dev programme
Animoca Brands' venture arm has invested $1M in Superior.Trade , a protocol-layer platform that lets AI agents autonomously research, backtest, and execute crypto trades. The deal integrates Superior.Trade into Animoca's Minds platform, which deploys sovereign AI agents without requiring users to maintain hardware infrastructure.
Superior.Trade operates as a "skill" within the Minds ecosystem. Agents can articulate trading strategies in natural language, run backtests against historical data, and execute those strategies live — all with predefined risk parameters.
Minds launched on February 5 in partnership with Ethoswarm, and Animoca is moving quickly to give its AI agents practical, revenue-generating capabilities. Public demonstrations through April and May showed Minds agents successfully deploying multi-layered strategies in live market conditions, including mean-reversion scalping and automated stop-loss management.
The $1M investment is also the opening act for something bigger: Animoca announced a Minds Investment Programme with up to $10M in funding for early-stage developers building on the platform, set to begin on May 5.
Autonomous AI agents trading crypto with real money is inherently risky. Backtests against historical data don't guarantee future performance, and live market conditions — especially in crypto — can shift violently. The composable "skills library" approach, where agents mix and match capabilities, adds flexibility but also complexity that could produce unpredictable behaviour.
Animoca Brands, classified as a corporate investor on Dealroom, is channelling capital into the nascent intersection of autonomous AI and crypto trading — a space with few established players and no proven playbook. The $1M cheque is modest, but the accompanying $10M developer programme suggests Animoca is trying to seed an entire ecosystem layer rather than back a single product, a strategy that only pays off if third-party builders show up.
