Qodo raises $70M to govern the AI code flood as enterprises lose trust in "AI slop"

What's the deal?

Israeli-founded, New York-headquartered startup Qodo has raised $70 million in a Series B round, bringing total funding to $120 million. The round was led by Qumra Capital, with participation from Square Peg, TLV Partners, and others.

Qodo builds AI agents for code review, testing, and governance — the layer that verifies AI-generated code before it ships. The company was founded in 2022 by Itamar Friedman , who previously co-founded Visualead, acquired by Alibaba, and later ran Alibaba's machine vision business. Customers include Nvidia, Walmart, Red Hat, Intuit, Texas Instruments, Monday.com, and JFrog. Qodo grew its enterprise footprint 11x in 2025.

Why now?

AI coding tools now generate billions of lines of code every month. But speed without verification creates risk: a recent survey found that while 95% of developers don't fully trust AI-generated code, only 48% consistently review it before committing. Enterprises are discovering that faster code output does not mean reliable or secure software — and are looking for tools to govern it.

Qodo recently ranked first on Martian's Code Review Bench with a score of 64.3% — more than 25 points ahead of Claude Code Review — a strong signal of competitive differentiation at a critical moment of enterprise adoption.

What could go wrong?

The code quality and governance space is attracting intense attention. OpenAI and Anthropic are building code review features into their own products, and a wave of early-stage startups is crowding the market. Qodo must prove that its context-aware, system-level approach is durable enough to stay ahead of foundation model providers that can bundle similar capabilities at lower marginal cost.

There is also a trust problem inherent in the market itself: if developers already under-review AI code today, selling them another AI tool to review it is a nuanced pitch.

The signal:

The AI coding boom has created its own crisis — a flood of low-quality AI-generated code accumulating in enterprise codebases. Qodo's growth reflects a broader market realisation that generation and verification require fundamentally different systems, and that the governance layer is becoming as commercially valuable as the generation layer.

As AI agents move from assisting developers to autonomously shipping code, demand for systems that can audit, enforce standards, and catch errors at scale will only grow. Code review is becoming infrastructure.
