Zipline raises $800M total as drone delivery habit forms among US customers

What's the deal? Drone delivery startup Zipline has added $200 million to its Series H, pushing the round to $800 million. The South San Francisco company is using the funds to accelerate US expansion, with Houston, Phoenix, and Seattle confirmed as new 2026 markets.

Crypto investment firm Paradigm joined the round alongside existing backers Fidelity Management & Research Company, Baillie Gifford, Valor Equity Partners, and Tiger Global, which had already valued Zipline at $7.6 billion.

Why now? Growth came in ahead of schedule. Delivery volume beat internal projections in January and February, and average basket size among existing US customers jumped more than 20% in the three weeks before the announcement. "Things have moved a little faster than we expected," chief executive officer Keller Rinaudo ClifftonDealroom has a profile for this one. Try Dealroom → said in a video posted to X. To meet demand, Zipline plans to double the number of brands on its app within 30 days.

Zipline also signed a new national-scale contract in Rwanda to bring urban drone delivery to major cities there, plus a third distribution centre to reach every hospital and health facility in the country.

What could go wrong? Scaling across US cities remains contingent on Federal Aviation Administration authorisation for beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations, which is granted case by case. Any regulatory slowdown could blunt expansion plans. Higher order volumes also raise the operational stakes — hardware failures and delivery misses get more expensive as customer expectations rise.

The signal: The key metric here isn't delivery volume — it's basket size. Existing customers ordering more per trip, not just returning more often, is evidence of habit formation rather than novelty. Paradigm's entry, a crypto-native fund with no prior logistics footprint, shows autonomous delivery is now attracting capital far beyond the traditional logistics investor base. With $800 million raised and a $7.6 billion valuation, Zipline is mounting the strongest case yet that last-mile drone delivery is a real, scalable business.
