Ualá raises $195M at $3.2B valuation to deepen its Latin American push
What's the deal? Argentine neobank Ualá has raised $195 million in an equity round led by Allianz XDealroom has a profile for this one. Founded in 2017, Ualá serves more than 11 million customers across Argentina, Mexico, and Colombia, offering payments, credit, merchant acquiring, and investment products through a single mobile app. It holds full banking licences in all three markets.
Why now? The round follows a challenging stretch for Argentine financial institutions. Consumer loan defaults have surged in recent years — nearly 10% of Argentine families are now behind on loan payments — and Ualá completed layoffs in Argentina in 2025. But sentiment has shifted: October's midterm elections, easing inflation, and falling interest rates have made investors more optimistic about the region's recovery.
Mexico is also emerging as a growth engine. Ualá reduced its non-performing loan rate there from 17% to 10.4% in the year to November 2025, and active customers have grown 7% month-on-month since the company received its banking licence. It is now Mexico's eighth largest bank by number of accounts.
The deal also deepens Ualá's embedded insurance partnership with Allianz, following the launch of life and personal accident coverage within the app in Argentina earlier this year — products that generated more than 300,000 quotes within weeks.
What could go wrong? Argentina's macroeconomic recovery remains fragile. Interest rates, though falling, are still high, and a reversal in the country's stabilisation would directly hit Ualá's largest market.
The company's previous Series E round in 2024 raised $366 million at a valuation of $2.75 billion — a larger raise at a lower valuation than this round, suggesting that growth has come with some compression in capital efficiency.
Credit risk remains a core operational challenge. Loan default rates, while improving in Mexico, are still elevated, and expanding credit in high-inflation markets carries significant risk.
The signal: This round reflects two converging bets: that Latin America's recovery is real enough to deploy capital into, and that embedded financial services — banking and insurance bundled into a single app — represent the right model for markets with high smartphone penetration but low financial inclusion.
Startup funding in Latin America totalled $6.2 billion in 2025, the highest since 2022, suggesting broader investor confidence is returning to the region after a sharp post-pandemic pullback.
Ualá, with its banking licences, multi-country presence, and Allianz partnership, is positioning itself as the infrastructure layer for that recovery.
